The Natural Seven Present Lady Luck

A Natural Seven is a “seven-card straight flush with no joker” in seven-card stud poker and is the highest ranked hand. When you hold this hand, Lady Luck should take no further part in the proceedings, although her long legs may prove a distraction. And there’s no luck involved in the creation of this TVD “Collaboration Special” compilation. The Seven in this case are members of this special Crew who came up with a rare selection of picks for this particular offering. I hope you appreciate the efforts of newbies billymac, Pobre' Rich, soulsider and sister DustyRose, as well as old hands ScavenJah, RossyBoy and G Man. From the sublime opener from Ronnie Walker through to Johnny Flamingo's farewell, there's just no way you can fold when there's such a jackpot to be won. So just roll up your sleeves, pull down your eye-shade, pour a large bourbon and settle in for a long evening.

RossyBoy's Crying Time Vol 17

Say hello to my Muerto. She's been with me since Hallowe'en. I think SOLOE sent her to me. She was a Sad Girl and pretty, but disconcerting too. She gave me quite a bit of help with this comp, but I hope she goes back where she came from soon...... I recently dusted off "The Soul Book" which I bought in 1975. The four authors each give a list of their 20 all-time favorite tracks, and the most interesting one for me was by Tony Cummings, founder of Soul Music magazine in UK. The Trumains track here is on Tony's list; and also the anti-war anthem from Delia "Dee Dee" Gartrell. All in all, the book was an interesting view of the state of "Soul" music back then - most of those favorites would be very well known to us today. In 2008, Delia's husband The Mighty Hannibal produced a CD compilation of tracks by her called Starting A Movement. If there is interest, I may post up that CD sometime soon. I've got another  superb track from the Chiffons this time. The other purchase I made on my record buying debut was "Our Day Will Come" by Ruby & The Romantics, so I thought  a great track from them would be a worthy addition. And then a little dedication to welcome new team member "billymac", from Tammi Terrell. It will be the first anniversary of Dimas Garza's death next week, so a class rola from the man is in order. Uncle Ray Charles was never sure where to draw the line between country and soul; same for Solomon Burke, Freddy Fender and many others, especially the Southern soulsters. So maybe it's not too much of a surprise to see little Brenda Lee kicking off - with that great voice and the Dave Berry hit from the early 60's, I've always liked this one. And seeing us out, we have Little Joe Hernandez showing he is still cutting it. So, get serious and shed a few tears while listening to this one....

Track List
01 - Brenda Lee - The Crying Game
02 - Delia Gartrell - See What You Done Done (Hymn No.9)
03 - Big Maybelle - 96 Tears
04 - The Chiffons - Down Down Down
05 - Erma Franklin - The Right To Cry
06 - Ralfi Pagan - Didn't Want To Have To Do It
07 - Hoagy Lands - My Tears Are Dry
08 - Ruby & The Romantics - Your Baby Doesn't Love You Any More
09 - Ruby Winters - I Don't Want To Cry

MEMORIES OF THE PAST

Photobucket
Q-VOLE...

Big mexican holiday today...Dia De Los Muertos.....Day of the dead. The day the decease walk amongst the living. I decided to make this compilation to remember those good times we had with our fallen friends. A bit of everything in here. First 5 start off with some cruising oldies....and the next 6 will take you back to them doo-wop days of when parties were held in garages or american legion/dance halls...depending on where you from. And the rest are some northern style soul cuts. 2 unknown tracks here so if anybody knows them...let me know. So pour out a lil liquor...or crack open 2 beers...for yourself and your deceased one...and party like you use to...thats what today's for....not for mourning but to show you still think and miss them.  SALUD!!!(CHEERS!!)

Just a little about these tracks...

01. Startells - You're Wrong About Me I Don't remember much about this record except The dark pink label & the B Side of "Falling In Love With You Girl" One of my fav cuz I love thier echoing & taunting mellow sound...

03. Gallahads - Sad Girl
Heres a little info I learned about this record on Beechwood label also Art Laboe's Starla label...at the time this record was realeased a group "The Chants" became The Gallahads, but after 2 releases from the unofficial Gallahads, The Orignal Jimmy Pikin Gallahads did the rest of the hit ballads..But still in all what a original "Sad Girl" from 1960 soon followed by many Artist/Groups!

04. Monitors - Since I Lost You Girl ever come home from buying a record & play the B side first cuz we already know what the A side sounds like? well this is one of those records that became a upbeat fav of mine, I normally don't like fast upbeat songs but this is one of those that caught my ear...Greetings (This Is Uncle Sam) as you know is the A side...

05. Jaggerz - It's Gonna Take A Miracle - I'm On The Outside Looking In
Lead singer from this group is Jimmy Ross, The Girl singer is no other than
Donna Groom from the Skyliners group, another great voice...

11. Lezlie Valentine - Love On A Two Way Street was written by Sylvia Robinson in 1968. This song was originally recorded by Lezli Valentine, was then recorded by The Moments in 1970...

20. Vibrations - Take a Step in My Direction ( Aesop's Fables cut 67') were aka Jayhawks & Marathons) They never had a hit but they made it to r&b & pop charts...

21. Intruders - Just A Little Devil With An Angel's Smile
I remember the grunts I made when I pulled this record from my 45's...dang thing had a bigass crack in it :( but thanks to one of my DJ contacts, I was able to get a nice copy of this 1966 favorite...

25. Mary Wells & Smokey Robinson - I Want You Around
Before Marvin & Kim & The Royal Jesters there was...
Mary & Smokey who produced this fav in 63 (anyone have other versions? please let me know) I Love this song..

Again, Big thanks to RossyBoy for this awsome cover,
I love it so much I'm gonna use it one more time!

Ok there you have it!, Enjoy!!
