OHIO SOUL VOLUME THREE

The final volume of Ohio Soul is finally here. I hope everyone has enjoyed the hard work I put in to complete this series. Front and left-center on the cover are the Casinos. The Casinos were a nine-member doo-wop group from Cincinnati, Ohio, led by Gene Hughes. They are best-known for their John Loudermilk written song "Then You Can Tell Me Goodbye," which hit #6 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1967, well after the end of the doo-wop era. The group was based around Hughes and his brothers Glenn and Norman, and they signed a deal with Fraternity Records. "Then You Can Tell Me Goodbye" was their first single, and its vocal harmony and organ interlude would not have been out of place in a top ten hit from ten or fifteen years earlier. The track reached #28 in the UK Singles Chart in March 1967. They tried to follow it up with a Don Everly penned song "It's All Over Now" but that only hit U.S. #65. That single did propel them to a two year tour. Unfortunately just like the final destination of so many great soul groups this would be the final highlight for the band. The Casinos track included in this compilation is their very 1st single they produced after changing their group name from The Capris to The Casinos.

OHIO SOUL VOLUME TWO

Back on the scene with volume two of my Ohio soul series. This volume among others include the great Bobby Wade, The Elements and of course the O'jays to name a few. The state of Ohio had a major impact on the soul scene in the 60's and 70's.....with this series I'm just trying to give you a taste of how nice it was back then. Hopefully you will share my views. Send me a line and let me know if you are feeling this project or not. If I get some positive feedback I might offer up my lightly distributed Chicago Soul series. Previously I was prevented from sharing this with the general public due to pressure from an unamed music label.

OHIO SOUL VOLUME ONE

Here's the first volume from a planned three volume set. Before I take any heat from any of the Ohio soul scholars out there I have to put an up front disclaimer. This series is intended to be only a taste of that great soul that is associated with the state of Ohio. The only requirements I placed on adding an artist to the comp was that the artist(s) had to be born in Ohio, lived in Ohio or put music out on an Ohio record label at one time. I tried to make the series a little bit less mainstream to feed the underground soul appetite of the familia here. Again this series definitely is not going to include everything it rightfully should.....but again this is just a taste to get the familia into the mood for searching a little bit deeper for those forgotten gems from the great state of Ohio.
