Kinda hard to follow on from OneEvilDog's tribute to his brother yesterday, but I suppose normal service has to be resumed at some stage. I'd planned this post after the exchange of pleasantries with ScavenJah relating to the Mirettes. When the 1964-1966 edition of the Ikettes - Robbie Montgomery, Vanetta Fields, and Jessie Smith - decided to leave Ike Turner's organization to record on their own, they came up with the name the Mirettes because Ike had a licence on the Ikettes name. They made two albums; this is their first from 1967, on Revue. You'll find the sweet rola mentioned by ScavenJah, "First Love" here. There's also a nice version of "Keep On Running" made famous by the Spencer Davis Group. It was written by Jackie Edwards, a West Indian based in UK in the Sixties. Jackie has a great album called "Put Your Tears Away" which I must dig out and post for you soon. Anyway, back to the Mirettes - I just thought this one was too good to keep to myself.............so here you go!
