RossyBoy's Broken Promises Vol 14

What better to do on a rainy day than finish off another compilation. I'm keeping a couple of promises - one to myself; to bring you a favorite of mine from the late Willy DeVille in the form of his group Mink DeVille's "Just To Take That Little Girl Home". Another promise was to regular Eugene who was looking for some Emotions and Alton McClain - so here they are. The Destiny track is a "version" of Johnny Bristol's "Hang On In There Baby" and there are a few more "versions" here too. A nice slow jam from Janice McClain, sometimes mistakenly thought to be Alton's daughter, who had a couple of issues and one album in the early 80's. Some classic oldies are dusted down - Gene Chandler's sobber really takes me back. A pair of Spanish rolas with the Rondels stealing from the Delfonics (who get their own back on a pacy version of Little Anthony's "Hurt So Bad") and Frankie Nieves with the Spanish language take on his mighty "True Love". A nice Motown track from the Temps, the flip of "Don't Let The Joneses Get You Down" from 1969. Aretha's baby sis "Carolyn" comes though on another nice slowie. A hard-to-find slow oldie from Desmond Dekker shows just how great our Caribbean Soul Brothers could be. There's an early Nick Ashford classic and also a fantastic find from him and Valerie Simpson, an acetate demo for Motown "We Can Make It, We Can" which eventually made it onto the Miracles album "Four In Blue". So, the usual melting pot of stirred-up Soul - I hope you dine well! Let me know......
