El Chicano (1973)

One of the most visibly successful bands to emerge from the East Los Angeles Latin-rock scene in the early 1970’s was El Chicano, following on from the ground-breaking release of Viva Tirado. Jerry Salas joined this legendary group in 1973 and provides lead vocals on this, their fourth album. The lead-off track, and their biggest single around this time, "Tell Her She's Lovely" wasn’t a major hit; only reaching number 40 on Billboard’s pop singles chart and number 98 on the magazine’s R&B singles chart. But in Mexican-American neighborhoods, the song was huge and became a significant addition to El Chicano’s live perfomances.
