CROWDED PARK - WENDY RENE

If you haven’t heard of Wendy Rene, wait until you hear this album. This lady sings with real emotion. A lot of times with some artists it doesn’t sound like they are really putting their heart and soul into it, Wendy Rene is just the opposite! If you like oldies and soul you are going to be really happy to have this. It’s nearly unbelievable that a singer this good didn’t have more success than she did. I guess it just goes to show that in the music industry all talent is not treated equally.

Wendy Rene was originally a member of the Drapels at Stax Records. Stax recognized her talent immediately and made her a solo artist. Wendy’s biggest hit was in 1964 with the single “After Laughter Comes Tears.” Wendy completed several other singles in 1964-1965 but they didn’t receive the promotion they deserved and therefore didn’t make a dent on the charts which in turn sealed her fate with Stax Records. Wendy Rene never actually put out an album. All of her work was issued via 45’s. A good portion of her songs did come out on an all girl comp called “You Thrill My Soul” which also includes Carla Thomas, The Tonettes, Barbara Stephens & Deanie Parker. I’ve got a copy of this album, but it contains a lot of major sound issue problems with various songs, otherwise I’d share it….but instead what I will share is my own compilation album of Wendy Rene, born Mary Frierson and hailing from Memphis, Tennessee.....be ready to be amazed by the outstanding talent of Wendy Rene.
