MzO's Sophisticated Southern Soul Vol 1

"No weapon that is formed against us shall prosper;

I'd like to thank G and all who've helped him for keeping our house, a "home"
Hello family. I’m MzO and to be frank ... I just wanna listen to music and enjoy it for whatever emotional ride it’s set to take me on. But the blessing of being the new chica on the block comes with responsiblity. And it's my duty to elaborate on my choice of songs I’m providing for my first solo contribution to Foolish Dreamer Oldiez. Although writing is one of my greatest passions, nothing is as passionate to me as a great ballad or love.

February is a great month to make my debut for my first comp because being the incurable romantic that I am, I love.... “LOVE.” I mean, who doesn’t? The hunt and then the chase of it. The tumbling head over heels in love and trying to stay in it. The you-hurt-me-so-dayum bad-but-I-still-love-your azz love. Make-up too still break-up love. Back in love again and the memories of love.

Being a part of such a great team, I hope I can stand up to the challenge of delivering a great comp for you. On this comp, we’ll take a stroll back down memory lane to a place that we all are or once have been in, all because of love...

Oscar Irwin - Let one hurt do / Transplant ~ ABBOTT 2015 (1973?) Irvin does an exceptional job on expressing one hit to his heart is definitely more than enough. Lorraine Rudolph - After All I’ve Been Though /JETSTREAM 817 (early 70s?) . She seems to have cut this one single and illuminated her feeling of dissatisfaction. Soul Lee - I Need You /REGINALD 1488 (mid 60s) This Greenville, MS exhibits confident vocals . Brenda Varner - Let Me Be A Woman / The late wife of Don Varner appeared for the first time on Charly UK’s series of LPs. Track # 24 Brenda Duff - Left in Love Alone/ ~ BLUE ROCK 4083 (1969) We heard from her on track # 4. Guess on this one she choose to use her maiden name. And on track # 26 Don’t Give Up On Me , the comparison is to soul singer Bettye Swann. Fred Martin - Love Don’t Leave Me Now ~ RU-JAC 9170 (1970) Track # 9 Take Me Back Again ~ RU-JAC 9170 A pleading ballad. Giving us an experiencing intense vocal performance with a female chorus in the background. Dorothy Williams - Closer to My Baby /VOLT 118 (1964) This ballad is classy. Dorothy’s intensity pushes emotional hotness into this cut. Li’l Nelson - You Could Have Kissed Me Goodnight / ~ RIDE 10066 (mid 60s) An obscure artist giving us a blues based ballad. Lady Margo is her recording name, but her real name is Joyce Fargo. She’s also used Joyce Smith. She contributes 3 fine cuts to this comp. This Is My Prayer ~ MTH 3394 (1974) track # 8. Stop By~ CYNTHIA 1000 (1976?) Track # 20 & I Had To Go ~ SOUL WORLD 007 (1973?) track # 22. This first single gives a charged emotional deliverance with a little rap in the middle. Rhonda Davis - A Long Walk On A Short Pier ~ DUKE 473 . A tale of betrayal and despair. Eddie Houston - That’s How Much I Love You (Alt Version)~ CAPITOL 2170 (1968) A collective. Alice Thomas - I’m Coming Home~ ODEX 1044 . She starts with a little spoken word in the beginning with complimentary deep tones throughout the cut. Jay Robertson - I Can’t Live Without You~ MALA 551 (1967) A nice ballad and is the only 45 he has ever made. Betty Green - Don’t Play With My Heart~ CRACKERJACK 64002 (1964?) Betty’s a force to be reckon with on this b-side ballad that comes straight from a church background. Billy Woods - No One To Blame~ VERVE 10451 . This song is scrumptious and the hook to the melody is great. Emma Atkins - Lonely Girl~ DELTA 0003 (1968) Hailing from rural Louisiana and never leaving her hometown, she gives us a strong southern delivery. “Lil Willie - Tell Me Why~ GOLDEN 117 (1972) A female background gives his vocals more impressiveness. Lorraine Randolph - It’s Over Between Us~ GEMINI STAR 30006 (1966) A stellar ballad that you may have listen to already, but will still want to hear over and over again. Joe Wilson - I Want To Love You/ ~ WHITE CLIFFS 242 & Now You Want To Do Right~ WHITE CLIFFS 281. This New Orleans native gives us two beautiful soul ballads done in the early 60's. He later collaborated with Jean Knight to give us another great ballad. Mr. D. & The Highlights - Every Now and Then ~ JAS 316 (early 70s). I did mention I love an emotional ride. And that’s what Mr. D provides with this 45 cut. Third Guitar - Been So Long ~ ROJAC 127 (1969) This ballad has been featured on a comp before, but it sounds so good and reminded me of one of my favorite groups “The Impressions, I added it on just for good measure.
