Lil'Cholo's Cali Boy Memories Vol. 3

OK Ladies & Gentlemen,

On this one, well, it's very similar to Vol. 2. I was originally gonna make Vol. 2 a 2 Disc Special using these songs for Disc 2 but decided to just go ahead and put them on their own comp.

Anyhow, on here you will find two songs which in my honest opinion should be a part of everyone's favorites when it comes to oldies. Those two would be Track #6 "Duke of Earl" by Gene Chandler and Track #9 "Angel Baby" by Rosie & The Originals. Now you tell me, what guy doesn't love cruising while listening to Duke of Earl? That song makes you feel like you're the shiznit. If you know any Spanish at all, I'd say this is like the American version of Vicente Fernandez' "El Rey" and who doesn't like Rosie and that beautiful voice telling you, you're her Angel Baby? I really never knew what Rosie looked like till one day I cam across one of her albums on another site. Dayom, she's one hot mamma jamma. Oh well, like I said, it's my opinion but you have to admit those have to be on the top of your list somehwere.

OK, now moving on back to the comp, I ended this one the way I ended Vol. 2, with a live version of a great song. This time, it is Betty Wright singing "Tonight is The Night". This song also has to be up there on my lists of all time greats. I love how she's telling the story of this song and how she messes with the crowd, etc...As to when she gets down to actually sining the song itself, all I can say is WOW! This song talks about something we have all probably gone through and if you've heard it, you know what I'm talking about, if you haven't, you're in for a special treat.

I started this comp off with the flip side of Patti Drew's 45 "Tell Him" which happens to be "Working on a Groovy Thing". Both of these songs are on the top of my faves with "Tell Him" being a bit higher on my list. Don't know what other songs she put out back in her day but "Working on a Groovy Thing" and "Tell Him" are an awesome duo.

The rest of the songs are probably pretty well known, a couple Brenton Wood songs, a couple more Billy Stewart, and a couple more of Mary Wells. Mixed in you will find The McCoys "Hang on Sloopy" which was a crowd favorite back in the day and then we have Lynda Jones' "Hypnotized". I don't know why but I always thought it was sung by a young guy. Boy was I wrong. LOL! We also have Barabara Lynn's "You'll Lose a Good Thing" and if you have a wife like mine, that song is pretty much right on target.

Last but not least, I have to mention The Orlon's "Mr Twenty One". Who here didn't play that song on their 21st B'day or wish they had? Makes it seem like it was composed just for you on your 21st B'day, doesn't it? Ahhh, if I could only be 21 again. Anyhow, I couldn't get a good copy for this one but I have to take this time to give Roxio some props. Y'see, this song sounded as if I were listening to it right off an old record player. Well, I have Roxio Creator 2009 and it has a sound editor program which allowed me to clean up the song by removing the hiss and little cracks and all I had to do was click on a button and it did it all by itself. I also used RC2009's Track Editing software to tag all the songs, add the cover, etc... I've been using Roxio for years now and I use it to burn all my CD's. It's truly top of the line once you get to know it. Anyhow, major props to this software. I highly recommend it.

Well, this might be my last comp for a while cause the crew already put out all the good stuff. LOL! But seriously, I really don't have the knowledge of the music that these guys do and what I do have are mostly my own favorites. Alot of these have already come out in a few comps so I really don't want to keep putting up comps with what will probably be the same music over and over. I was actually gonna wait to put this one out but decided what the heck, it's ready so might as well get it over with. I might do another Tejano Oldies and maybe a couple with the 70's-80's theme but as far as oldies go, I might have one more at most. We'll see. Oh, and feel free to ask for my assistance on anything you need, If I can help you, I will. I have some great graphic programs as well as that Roxio program so if you need help on a cover, drop me an email.

Enjoy!

~Lil'Cholo
