The Hesitations - Soul Superman

The Hesitations were from Cleveland, Ohio and comprised of George "King" Scott (lead), Fred Deal (tenor) and Leonard Veal (tenor) + 3 more going by the cover! Formed in 1965, they scored several hits in 1967 and 1968, the biggest being their gospel-infused version of the title track to the movie "Born Free". It would be fair to say they specialized in soulful treatments of blatantly pop melodies but they had some solid soul tracks also. Their pre-"Born Free" tracks, such as the ones on this album, are considered classic four-on-the-floor Northern soul. After lead singer George "King" Scott was accidentally shot and killed in February 1968, the group disbanded.

This is the CD version of their first album released on Kapp in 1967. Their other albums are "Solid Gold" (Kapp, 1968), "The New Born Free" (Kapp, 1968) , "Where We're At" (Kapp, 1968) and a Best Of....CD "Let's Groove" from 2002.

They also cut some tracks on GWP with Debbie Taylor (see one of our sister blogs "Classic and Rare Soul Sisters 50s - 70s" for a great download of an anthology of her cuts - NOT TO BE MISSED in my humble opinion!)
