Jackie Edwards - Put Your Tears Away

Well, I promised you some Jackie Edwards and here we go with this album, on the Island label from 1969. And it's sure to be a bit different for all you cholos and cholas out there (including our new brother Lil'cholo) because this is Soul with a Caribbean/Brit flavour. Born in Jamaica in 1938, Edwards came to the attention of Chris Blackwell in 1959 and when Blackwell set up Island records in London in 1962, Jackie travelled with him. I featured the title track on my 4th compilation some time back, but Jackie penned 9 of the other 11 tracks himself, including two that were No. 1 UK hits for the Spencer Davis Group. So, he was a talented guy and a great soul singer and reggae artist in his own right. He passed away in 1992. He does a fine rendition of the Neil Diamond classic "Girl, You'll Be A Woman Soon" here. And watch out for the bonus track, a nice version of "I Do Love You" with a reggae beat. A while ago I also promised you some sweet reggae rolas, so I thought I'd include a couple of Jackie's, plus two of his duets, as bonuses for this post. Let me know what you think of this set!

PS I am continuing to post downloads with no restrictions as I believe most of our visitors are genuine music lovers and I don't believe in punishing the innocent for the sins of the guilty. Not every one is a BlobbyMan out there! But I do report every violation I spot on e-Bay.
