THE FOUR HORSEMEN PRESENT PLAYBOY CHARM VOLUME ONE

I've got a special treat for the KLD listeners today.....a smooth souldies comp titled "THE FOUR HORSEMEN PRESENT PLAYBOY CHARM VOLUME ONE." This is an album that I worked on with three heavy hitters of the the underground soul genre.....SOLOE, SCAVENJAH & SOULSIDER.

This album has a little bit of everything, of course in that smooth, stylistic groove pattern. Here are just a few highlights.....

Track 4 is from the New York based gang turned musical group, THE GHETTO BROTHERS. "I SAW A TEAR" was from their one and only album Power/Fuerza that was produced in 1971. A lonely ballad with that one and only trademark sound of THE GHETTO BROTHERS.

Song number five is from THE CASINOS, who also had the standout hit "Then You Can Tell Me Goodbye." "I'm Falling" is a doo wop flavored, close-harmony song performed to perfection by the group that was originally from Cincinnati, Ohio.

Cut number six by BOBBY MCCLURE titled "You Bring Out The Love In Me." This smooth track shares the same background instrumentation as LOVE AFFAIR'S "I Can't Stop Loving You." This song was only issued in the UK as a 45 single.

G SIDE RECORDS PRESENTS POBRE' RICHE'S UNDERGROUND BROWN SOUND VOLUME 27

Back on the scene with the Texas soul lean is the San Antonio Sniper.....Pobre' Riche. Tonite my friend from San Antone dropped off a holiday gift for the listeners....G SIDE RECORDS PRESENTS POBRE' RICHE'S UNDERGROUND BROWN SOUND VOLUME 27.

This compilation of underground soul rolas features some fantastic music...I'll highlight just a few.

Track #2 of this comp...."I Don't Want To Lose You" is a really nice soul cut from Steve Mancha out of Detroit. He was best know for "Don't Make Me a Story Teller" & the song " Easy Living." Steve's real name is Clyde Wilson....his stage name was a recommendation from one of his producers back in the day. Steve was also part of another Motown act...100 Proof Aged in Soul. Steve recorded " I Don't Want To Lose You" which made a dent on The Billboard Top 100 and was considered a hit in March of 1966. He also released a song or two with the Holidays.

Featured cut number 10 of this grand album is by Fred Parris and The Restless Hearts. That's right the same Fred Parris that was part of The Five Satins, the famed group that issued the hit "In The Still of the Night." Track 10 "Ain't No Use in Crying" is proof that Fred could still get down on some mean tunes with the Restless Hearts.

Song 12 of this compilation features The Jaggerz with the very fine "Gotta Find My Way Back Home." The Jaggerz proved that whatever Gamble and Huff touched would turn to gold. The Jaggerz were basically a blue eyed soul group best know for "They Call Me The Rapper". That was pretty much the extent of their career. "Gotta Find A Way Back Home" was a popular hit with the college kids and those serving in the war. The year was 1968 when they kicked off their album under the Philadelphia Gamble and Huff label. The Jaggerz never matched the success of the "Rapper" and later disbanded.

A lot of hard work went into this project by Pobre' Riche so don't hold back with the comments. Give this man a shout out and hopefully this will inspire him bless us with another volume of this great series.

The Natural Seven Present Precious Groove Vol. 2

“We have learned to caress our precious groove with a polished sapphire or diamond stylus, mounted in a very sensitive light-to-medium-weight cartridge and pickup. Sapphire-tipped styli are much cheaper than diamond-tipped, but they really are a false economy; their wear life is a fraction of that of a diamond and the initial savings will be offset by the frequency of replacement, so we do not recommend their use.”
So much for looking after your 78’s, the rolitas on this set are mostly Oldies OK, but not that old ! Yes, The Natural Seven return, fresh from their last triumph, but with a small change of personnel. Lil’David is back on board after a sabbatical, and it’s great to have him and his firme rolas back. Representing the distaff side this time we have that not so Grumpy lady bringing her feminine intuition to some incisive choices. I think we hit the jackpot last time, so I hope we are not overplaying our cards this time around. Enjoy !

22. Yvonne Gomez & Group - Ease The Pain

23. Futures - When True Love Passes By

24. Star-Tells - What More Can I Ask For

25. Little Isidore & The Inquisitors - Go

A little about some of these tracks...

01. Kit Kats - Oh My Angel
Were from Philadelphia & played in Northeast Philly bars, "Oh My Angel" was recorded in 1968 and not released in its entirety though it was a club favorite. According to an anonymous source, a tape defect prevented the entire recording from being usable until the late 1990s.

02. Ty Hunter - Lonely Baby
Was first issued on Checkmate in 62 but was licensed to Chess in 63 to become a decent R&B hit and Hunters' biggest solo release. He was once backed up by The Voice Masters, and a member of The Originals & other detroit Grps..I do believe The Voice Masters were his backup on this favorite....
Makes me want to cha-cha-cha everytime I hear it!

03. Trends - Not Too Old To Cry 1965
Not to be confused with the mid-'60s Liverpool/Merseybeat Trends act, Theses were one of the Chicago soul vocal groups signed to ABC-Paramount

04. Persuasions - Summer Ride 1974
On Erica Label, I always thought this version was the original, but to my surprise it was done by Brighter Side Of Darkness first in 1973, IMHO Persuasions did it best... :-p

07. Renaldo Domino - I'm Getting Nearer To Your Love
(Born Renaldo Edward Jones) This record was written by Chicago DJ Mr. Richard Pegue in 1967

16. Sister Sledge - The Weatherman
These sisters signed with Atco records & recorded this second single in 1972

18. Billy Harner - Fool Me 1969
This Philadelphia singer is still an active performer to this day, he was one of the greatest singers in the 'blue eyed soul" bag of the mid to late 60's.

20. Reginald Haynes & Group - I'll Be Sweeter Than Yesterday 1973
Founder and lead vocalist of "The Escorts" the group he created while serving time in prison..

Please enjoy & feel free to leave comments! :)

RossyBoy's Biting Bullets Vol 18

I'm kicking off this time with some sweet reggae, but the inspiration for quite a few of the tracks here came from my fellow crew members. Billymac brought me back in mind of Ronnie Walker and here's the slightly longer single version of "Guess I'll Never Understand", under the name of Fletcher Walker III. I am so taken with Ronnie's voice, I'm bringing you another great track of his "Really, Really Love You". OED gave you some "Stax on Motown" on his "Love Me Again" comp, but long before Stax did it, we had "Goldwax on Motown" in the form of James Carr duetting on the Tops' "Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch". ScavenJah was blowing our minds with some "TnT", so here's their classic "Meditation". SOLOE put me on to the Jive Five & Chantels version of "Don't Believe Him Donna" (which I've now managed to pick up), but here's the song's writer, Lenny Miles, backed with the Shirelles. My closing rola is the original of "Got To Get Through To You" after the G MAN came through with the Lee Fields' version. There are a couple of familiar songs in here but in an international setting. We have the Italian stallion, Nino Tempo and sister April on an understated version of "Land of 1000 Dances", which Thee Midniters were first to record. And very probably listeners like Skiny and Max will recognise "The French James Brown", Moroccan-born Vigon, with his charming version of "Harlem Shuff-EL" from 1967. This cat is still strutting it to this day. I remember being in Paris in 1969, not long after the student riots, and the clubs were fantastic, with James Brown pumping out funky stuff all night long; gorgeous women - Ooh, La, La!, the French always loved their soul music. I've got a Drifters' retro classic from 1964 with Charlie Thomas, magnificent, on lead. And the most unusual of all, since it's not on any record or CD; a mighty a capella performance by the Persuasions of Dee Dee Gartrell's Hymn No.9 (which I brought you last time), live from a concert in the Empire Theatre, Liverpool, UK, in 1973. Just how good were these guys - simply awesome! As my man MELLO said, another mixed bag comp in the RossyBoy style - maybe a bit more A La Carte than usual - hope it's to your taste!

TRIPLE THREAT OLDIES

It's been a while since anything has been posted on THE KEEPER OF LOST DREAMZ....but I think every body's wait will be well worth it. Today is the grand, 1st time preview of the TRIPLE THREAT OLDIES SERIES. I've been working on this series with two big time soul blogosphere players.....WARPATHRUKA from http://suicidalboomerang.blogspot.com/ and my partner SOLOE from http://tomorrowsvelvetdreamz.blogspot.com/ .

This is a project that was specially produced for THE KEEPER OF LOST DREAMZ. These tracks are primarily slow to mid-tempo souldies that have that classic O.G. SOUL - LOWRIDER SOUND. Hopefully you will enjoy this compilation that required much hard work to produce. Tentatively we do have other volumes planned for the future depending on the success of this debut album.

Special props go out to WARPATHRUKA for finding the time in her day to help us get this one completed. She's currently a very busy woman serving in our U.S. Military.....so once again a big thanks to her for donating her time to this project and a big thanks to her and her fellow soldiers that serve and protect the United States.

Another big shout out goes to my partner in soul music crime (it must be a crime to put out comps this good!) SOLOE. Homeboy SOLOE worked his magic in editing, packaging and providing the music link for this album.

To scoop this boulevard cruising classic just check the end of this post for the link.....and please leave us some feedback in the comment section of this post to let us know your opinion of the album.

The Natural Seven Present Lady Luck

A Natural Seven is a “seven-card straight flush with no joker” in seven-card stud poker and is the highest ranked hand. When you hold this hand, Lady Luck should take no further part in the proceedings, although her long legs may prove a distraction. And there’s no luck involved in the creation of this TVD “Collaboration Special” compilation. The Seven in this case are members of this special Crew who came up with a rare selection of picks for this particular offering. I hope you appreciate the efforts of newbies billymac, Pobre' Rich, soulsider and sister DustyRose, as well as old hands ScavenJah, RossyBoy and G Man. From the sublime opener from Ronnie Walker through to Johnny Flamingo's farewell, there's just no way you can fold when there's such a jackpot to be won. So just roll up your sleeves, pull down your eye-shade, pour a large bourbon and settle in for a long evening.

RossyBoy's Crying Time Vol 17

Say hello to my Muerto. She's been with me since Hallowe'en. I think SOLOE sent her to me. She was a Sad Girl and pretty, but disconcerting too. She gave me quite a bit of help with this comp, but I hope she goes back where she came from soon...... I recently dusted off "The Soul Book" which I bought in 1975. The four authors each give a list of their 20 all-time favorite tracks, and the most interesting one for me was by Tony Cummings, founder of Soul Music magazine in UK. The Trumains track here is on Tony's list; and also the anti-war anthem from Delia "Dee Dee" Gartrell. All in all, the book was an interesting view of the state of "Soul" music back then - most of those favorites would be very well known to us today. In 2008, Delia's husband The Mighty Hannibal produced a CD compilation of tracks by her called Starting A Movement. If there is interest, I may post up that CD sometime soon. I've got another superb track from the Chiffons this time. The other purchase I made on my record buying debut was "Our Day Will Come" by Ruby & The Romantics, so I thought a great track from them would be a worthy addition. And then a little dedication to welcome new team member "billymac", from Tammi Terrell. It will be the first anniversary of Dimas Garza's death next week, so a class rola from the man is in order. Uncle Ray Charles was never sure where to draw the line between country and soul; same for Solomon Burke, Freddy Fender and many others, especially the Southern soulsters. So maybe it's not too much of a surprise to see little Brenda Lee kicking off - with that great voice and the Dave Berry hit from the early 60's, I've always liked this one. And seeing us out, we have Little Joe Hernandez showing he is still cutting it. So, get serious and shed a few tears while listening to this one....

Track List
01 - Brenda Lee - The Crying Game
02 - Delia Gartrell - See What You Done Done (Hymn No.9)
03 - Big Maybelle - 96 Tears
04 - The Chiffons - Down Down Down
05 - Erma Franklin - The Right To Cry
06 - Ralfi Pagan - Didn't Want To Have To Do It
07 - Hoagy Lands - My Tears Are Dry
08 - Ruby & The Romantics - Your Baby Doesn't Love You Any More
09 - Ruby Winters - I Don't Want To Cry
10 - Tammi Terrell - If You See Bill
11 - Leroy & The Drivers - I Wake Up Crying
12 - Freddie Hughes - I Just Found Out

MEMORIES OF THE PAST

Photobucket
Q-VOLE...

Big mexican holiday today...Dia De Los Muertos.....Day of the dead. The day the decease walk amongst the living. I decided to make this compilation to remember those good times we had with our fallen friends. A bit of everything in here. First 5 start off with some cruising oldies....and the next 6 will take you back to them doo-wop days of when parties were held in garages or american legion/dance halls...depending on where you from. And the rest are some northern style soul cuts. 2 unknown tracks here so if anybody knows them...let me know. So pour out a lil liquor...or crack open 2 beers...for yourself and your deceased one...and party like you use to...thats what today's for....not for mourning but to show you still think and miss them.  SALUD!!!(CHEERS!!)

If anyone has a better sounding track of billy harner's "fool me" (track 12)...can you shoot it over ....thanks!!
